Sound can soothe us, excite us, focus us and spur us on to competing well. Some horses love the whole atmosphere of competitions and barrel races.
Then there are some horses who become overwhelmed by sound.
In the stalls there are alot of other horses, alot of busy humans and riders, there may be announcements on a speaker above their heads.
Layer upon layer upon layer of sounds. It becomes noise.
This can go on for hours or days.
This is distracting and becomes irritating and uses up adrenalin and can become exhausting.
Then in the arena, the crowd, the echo the announcer the music…. too much. Shut down can occur…refusal to jump. Or for barrel racers going up the wall.
Try this….repeat it over and over. It has proven very helpful and worked successfully for many of the horses, dogs, cats, and even myself over the years.
